Edmonton, AB – In celebration of Seniors’ Month this June, the Covenant Foundation is championing support for seniors where it matters most — in our communities. Throughout June, the Foundation will raise awareness and funds to support innovative technology, life-enriching programs and specialized equipment to improve seniors’ health at Covenant hospitals, care facilities, and living facilities across Alberta.
The month will feature a 50/50 raffle, seniors’ month visual displays at Covenant facilities, and impactful stories about local seniors at seniorsmonth.ca. The campaign is proudly sponsored by Bird Construction.
“This month is intended to honour our grandparents, parents, neighbours, and friends that are truly the roots of our communities,” says Lisa Munro, President and CEO, Covenant Foundation. “In partnership with Covenant's leadership, as well as our generous donors and collaborators, we are committed to driving innovation in senior care. Together, we are developing vital solutions to meet the critical health needs of Alberta's aging population—both today and in the years ahead.”
A Serious State for Our Seniors
The need to advance seniors care continues to grow. Last year, one in six emergency visits to a Covenant hospital involved a senior. In Alberta, the senior population is increasing faster than any other age group, making it more important than ever to support the health and quality of life of older adults.
The Covenant Foundation is committed to being part of the solution. Through funding things like VR goggles for residents at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre to providing over $50,000 for the specialty bikes that help keep seniors active, these innovative technologies and enhancements make seniors' lives better.
“The Covenant Foundation is proud to have committed approximately $14 million towards seniors’ care initiatives across Alberta,” Munro continues. “But our work is far from over. We rely on the continued generosity of our donors to continue to help Covenant facilities with improved care through equipment and technology that help seniors live with purpose and joy.”
