The Company That Builds More Than Structures: 5 Ways Bird Construction is Lifting Spirits for Alberta’s Seniors
At Bird Construction, leadership does not just guide projects—it helps shape communities. From the top down, there is a clear belief that building a better world starts with showing up for the people in it.
“Supporting Covenant Foundation’s Seniors’ Month reflects our deep respect for seniors and the critical role they play in shaping our society,” said Bill Hefford, Director of Business Development at Bird. “We’re proud to stand behind this mission.”
As presenting partner of Covenant Foundation’s Seniors’ Month, Bird Construction has been a constant, generous supporter. This is more than just sponsorship. It is also about presence, purpose, and people. Earlier this month, Bird employees stepped away from their usual job sites to join a vibrant, lively Vegas-themed celebration at the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre (EGCCC). There, they brought smiles, conversation, and connection to seniors, transforming an ordinary day into something unforgettable.
Here are five ways Bird Construction is helping create a more connected and compassionate world for Alberta’s seniors:
1. They are leading by example.
Support starts at the top. With leaders like Bill Hefford championing the cause, Bird Construction shows that caring for seniors not a one-time gesture but a shared value. Backed by this leadership, Bird volunteers showed up at the Edmonton General event ready to engage, uplift, and connect.
“These are the moments that remind us why community matters,” Bill added.
2.They show up with purpose.
As presenting partner for the second consecutive year, Bird lends their name to our Seniors’ Month initiative. More than this, they also lend their time. At the Edmonton General’s Vegas-themed event for seniors, volunteers like Katelyn Kragnes and Renee Penetrante made time to connect with the residents one-on-one, guiding them through the day’s fun and engaging activities. Their presence reminded seniors that they matter and that they are not forgotten.
"It’s really important to show up for our seniors. They’re the pillar of our community. They’re the people who raised us", said Katelyn Kragnes, Bird volunteer.
3. They transform simple moments into special ones.
Whether helping residents make playful guesses or cheering on small victories, Bird’s volunteers helped transform a regular day into something extraordinary. These simple activities turned into special moments of connection and delight.
"To me it might be just a regular day, but to them, it’s a big event—and they feel like they’re part of something special," shared Renee Penetrante, Bird volunteer.
4. They are building community, not just physical structures.
Bird’s mission extends beyond the structures they create. They understand that community is built not just with materials, but with kindness, dignity, and shared joy. Supporting Seniors’ Month is one way they honour those who helped build the communities we live in today.
“These experiences create a shared sense of purpose and pride among our employees,” Bill shared. “Knowing their time makes a real difference—it matters.”
5.They are inspiring others to step in.
Bird Construction inspires other companies, donors, and individuals to get involved—proving that every hand, every hour, and every heart offered in service to seniors is a powerful act of compassion.
“Just show up,” Katelyn encouraged. “That’s all that matters—having that sense of community here.” Renee adds: "Showing up is a good reminder for them that people in the community still cares for them."
